I was really interested in buying one after seeing their advertisement, but now I'm thinking fuck'm. Those compressors look very similar to what you'd see in an oxygen concentrator. I can see right away those compressor motors are made to be used intermittently. They are clearly crap. The company needs a new supplier for the compressors. If you want 70db of sound. I suggest you go inside your neighbors house. That machine is going to continue to fail until a new source of compressors are found. Might as well buy a tank and build your own, it's not hard.

didn't have to watch the whole video , just read your brief at the beginning - which mirrored my experience with C a t. I purchased one thru Amazon (recommended ! because Cat would not respond beyond answering my first 3 phone calls regarding warranty). I, too, liked the weight and low decibel feature, and it pretty much behaved like every other compressor I have owned as a general Contractor...for two weeks. Then, one day during a remodel, where we had maybe one trim nailer being used - no double gun framing - there was this horrific odor in the house! I could not recognize the smell, I looked thru out the rooms, but nothing...and then out of the corner of my eye - a flame - coming from both motors on the compressor ! !

These compressors are junk. Tore one apart and the design of the motor is so bad it couldn't be repaired.

I'm glad you put this out there. I've contemplating buying one of these. This is the second video I've seen with them giving trouble. Thank you very much sir.

I really do not want an oil-less compressor but I need a bigger compressor for my Thunder Laser and it seems like most folks with lasers that upgrade their air systems go with oil-less (and in particular, go with California Air). I am trying to figure out if I should go with a standard air compressor using a water and oil separator...still on the fence. I will say though that I am now convinced to not buy a California Air compressor.

I've been heavily considering ordering one of California Air Tools compressors. Thanks for the review and saving me what looks like would have been a lot of frustration.

Nice video, I don't think I need a peice of shit to deal with. Plastic rings, I guess that's how they get away with no oil. Time to keep on shopping.

Came across your video...thanks for making it. I was looking at another model of these, myself...glad I got the benefit of your experience. I'm more worried about the lack of support and taking of responsibility for the problems on the part of California Air Tools than I am about the unit itself. Good luck with it going forward. From what I understand, the Eastwood scroll-type unit that is the only other quiet unit practical for the home enthusiast is having similar teething problems. These all suffer from poor technical development and testing, but mostly from having light-duty, under-scale parts, typically cheaply-made imports...no different from modern major household appliances.

During the time I was thinking about purchasing California Air unit I decided to go with a Lowes Oil less unit similar to those units.

That’s a BIG lemon. You can buy the right valve somewhere else if that helps. Excellent video

No actual piston pin and one plastic piston ring WOW I was thinking of getting one of these. What kind of CFM is this pumping out.

Thank you soooooooo much for your posting. Was.......key word was........looking at getting one of these because of the noise level. What a HORRIBLE piston design.
